I enjoyed learning this and I can see the benefits of having 3 D Printing for language revitalization. It could be tactile for the children to use to build words from the 3D letters.
The down fall I see from 3D printing is cost. With language revitalization it is a tough time to do all the work that we do and we can build resources at a much more cost effective way to learn our languages. Funding is a down fall as well as we are all competing for funding to keep our languages alive.
I really enjoyed this learning. I feel the screen casting will be an asset to teach our language and or to give instruction. I liked to use zoom to do this, it was simple.
The one thing I did not like about zoom and maybe I can learn how to take the camera off me while I am screen casting. I will try to figure this out. I figured it out and now my screen cast does not have my video on it.
I have included the board game you can download as well as the screen cast of some questions you can ask for the board game.
Pros for using Educational Games for Language Revitalization, keeps things fun and interactive. Hands on and for games there is a lot of repetition. If you play the games daily the children get good at words in language this includes saying the words as well as recognizing letters and sounds. Cons for using Educational Games for Language Revitalization include heavy competition which does happen in our classroom made up of 70% boys. They do want to win when playing games.
I believe games are a good tool even though there could be potential competition, because of the reputation used in games. An example would be go-fish. Using language such as your turn, do you have? This could include numbers in language and or animals (which is what we use).
Pros and Cons for using Google Earth Narrative Maps or 360 VR Tours for Language Revitalization, for me this is new. I can see a lot of pros using these type of tools. I think I can see a lot of language for specific things, ie. beach, water, sand, trails etc. For cons using this maybe as a person who has not used it might be just unsure how to use it for me that would definitely be a con. I would like to learn and use this for language revitalization learning.
I choose this sound file that is from a short book that we wrote that talks about what you see at the beach. I know when we create resources having audio files and or videos to go with our books is helpful for families. I also posted a short video we created on bugs a while back that was on a YouTube channel that we created. Any type of resource that we create we make sure it is family friendly. No inappropriate pictures or no bad words are posted. This important to us. I enjoyed learning about uploading video and sound files to the third blog today. It was a good day to learn about technology. Ǧilakasl̓a K̓anasumaǧa.
Today we learned how to upload pictures using two different sites Unsplash and Pexels, both of these sites are free. We learned the importance to give credit to the photographer. We had a couple of good tools today and my hopes are to use this for language revitalization.
We also learned a bit about lesson plans vs learning plans. Lesson Plans are outlines of what is to be covered and it is a regimented outline, it is a traditional method of organizing a classroom, it lists homework as well as links to resources.
A Learning Plan is customized for individual learners. It fits to the individual learners needs and interests. It is flexible and adaptable and it works good for inquiry based learning.
We also watched a documentary Most Likely to Succeed. And we were asked about pros and cons for the pedagogy used by this type of school. I see more pros then I do cons. I relate to this type of teaching our classroom isn’t free range but we give the children a lot of choices and I feel they learn better that way, they are more engaged. I feel with the way we are teaching now at our middle schools and high schools are not properly preparing our children for the outside world. Teachers are not flexible in their teaching strategies especially for our indigenous students who are more likely to drop out, lower graduation rates, lower reading levels, etc. I think a High Tech Highschool would work well for our students here.
